Busy day!

At 13:30 hourss January 14, 2004, Station 18 was dispatched on the first alarm assignment in area 24 for a working commercial building fire.  On the box were E-18 and T-18.  While enroute the address of the fire was changed also changing the fire district.  Updated report had Chief 63 (R. Walton – Fleetville) on scene transmitting a fully involved two story structure with defensive operations deployed. E-18’s crew assisted with attack and established accountability on the fire ground.  T-18 deployed it’s porta-pond for initial water supply into E-24 until the LDH supply was established.  Crews remained on scene until approx 1730hrs.
 

At 16:50 hrs Station 18 was dispatched to a MVA  at the intersection of Rt 374 and Rt 407.  Upon arrival Lt 18B (Ransom) reported a one car MVA vehicle over a 100’ embankment with the vehicle upside down, patient out of the vehicle but injured.  Chief 18-2 (O’Rourke) assumed command  and deployed a rope rescue operation off R-18 to retrieve the patient. 

The patient was extricated from the ravine in about 35 minutes and transported aboard 18-9.  R-18 remained on scene providing lighting while the vehicle was recovered.

At  22:00 hours Station 18 was dispatched for a MVA accident at mile marker 207 northbound I-81.  On the assignment was R-18, E-18, 18-9.  While enroute Susquehanna county communications updated the assignment to a multi-car accident with injuries.  Chief 18 (W. Turner) requested an additional engine company from area 24 for traffic while EMS command also requested an additional BLS truck from area 24. 

Chief 18 on scene established command with the following:  206 Northbound I-81 on the double bridges, seven vehicles including two tractor trailers, passenger cars, and two vehicles pulling trailers.  One vehicle has confirmed entrapment.  Command requested R-18 to deploy the initial  HRT for the extrication, after further size-up it was upgraded to a full heavy rescue deployment. 

R-18’s crew performed the extrication while 18 EMS continued triage of the scene.  After patients removed, R-18 provided lighting for the vehicle recovery and E-24 provided traffic control until the interstate was reopened.
