Heavy entrapment in Susquehanna County wreck

At approximately 12:00 Saturday, August 17,  Susquehanna County  (PA) dispatched Harford Fire and Ambulance along with Rescue 18 (Clifford Township) to a three car motor vehicle accident one mile from Lenox Corners near Acre Lake on Route. 106. Harford Engine 4, Ambulance 2 and 5,  R-18,  and Montrose ALS were on the box.


Multiple reports given confirmed entrapment and serious personal injury.  Upon arrival crews found a three car accident involving two passenger cars and a pick-up truck on its side. 

On arrival rescuers found five critical patients with multiple entrapment in
vehicle three.  An additional BLS, ALS and Guthrie one helicopter was summoned.

Extrication was started with HRT from Harford E-4.  Chief 18-2 (T.Turner) request full heavy rescue deployment upon R-18 arrival.

Chief Moser of Harford  assumed command. Chief 18 (W.Turner) coordinated rescue operations. Harford's (Michaels) was EMS command along with assistance from Captain 18 (O'Rourke).

Additional calls for BLS rigs brought 24-9 and 24-8 (Greenfield Township/Lackawanna County) the scene.

While the extrication continued on vehicle three all other patients were transported by ground to the nearest trauma center.

 An approximate 25-30 minute extrication was completed with the removal of the last two patients from the scene, one ground and one air transport.

Crews remained on scene until PSP Gibson investigation complete.  No EMS/rescue injuries were reported.
